This term we are learning about the Solar System. I have been finding information about the planet Saturn.

Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun, the second largest planet and it is the lightest planet, Saturn was first visited by NASA, they arrived on July 1. It has more than thirty moons including Titan, the second largest moon in the solar system.

Saturn was named after after the Roman god of agriculture. Saturday is named after him also.

“The captain is Mr Japan” said Bob.
“What is one of some of the Local delicacies from Georgia?”

“Bob, what is the Timeline history for Georgia?” I asked
“Some of the history is that Georgia was part of the Soviet Union. Georgia did eventually gain independence from the Soviet Union”.

Silly Sports Day

On Tuesday team 5 had Silly Sports day where we played games. There were some water games where we got wet. There was one where we had to put a ball on a spoon and make it across to the other side. There were 3 or 4 teams, the best game that I liked the best was the Sponge game where you had to put it under your legs and past it to next person. I liked the sligsoht where you had to get the ball in the goal.

Team work was the best thing to do and helping each other to get thought it. Some people were doing foul play and cheating and getting the game done so that we could hop to the next activity. The water activity was one of the best games there. All I could think about was winning.

The Brumbies were given a number of names of rugby-playing nations of the world. These were some of the nations that are recognised by the world governing body of Rugby Union, the International Rugby Board (IRB), as member unions but did not qualify for RWC 2011.
We divided them up amongst our team. I was given the nation of Luxemborg.

Different Auckland town centres have adopted Rugby teams from countries that qualified for the World Cup.
I found out information about :
The location in Auckland;
Something special about this place;
A 'potted' history of the place;
If it has it's own symbol of some sort.
(If we couldn't find a symbol we chose a picture that told more about the place).

Mangere Bridge is hosting Switzerland for the RWC.

Mangere Bridge is a suburb of Auckland and is about 12kms south-west of the city centre.

Mangere Bridge Village is renowned as a friendly, yet “real” taste of Kiwiana, and is a great way to acclimatize to New Zealand culture. The area is steeped in history and has a rich cultural heritage stemming from Maori settlement in the early 1800’s through to a vibrant Chinese market gardening community and European settlement.

For this unit we are in one of four teams: Brumbies, Force, Rebels, Stormers.

My team is Brumbies.

There will be a number of tasks for us to navigate to achieve our goal of an excellent result in this unit. There are a mixture of individual and team tasks to be completed. The main task that will show our learning in this unit will be a Hyperstudio presentation about one of the countries in the World Cup competition.

Edwin Binney and C. Harold Smith are best known all over the world for their invention the crayon.

C. Harold Smith was born in London, England in 1860 and lived for a while in New Zealand as a teenager until going to the United States in 1878. He married Paula Smith and they had two children, Bertha B. Hillas and Sidney V. Smith.

Edwin Binney was born in 1866 in Westchester County, New York and in died 1934. Edwin Binney was 68 years old when he died.

In 1878 they emigrated to the United States of America and 1885 the Binney & Smith Company was founded. In 1902 at the World Exhibition for dustless chalk they introduced the first box of crayons.
Since the founders death the Binney & Smith Company founded the Crayon, Watercolor, and Craft Institute. In 1978 the Binney & Smith Company introduced Crayola markers and in 1996 the 100 billionth crayon was produced. In 1998 the Company opened 20,000 square foot Crayola Factory in Easton, Pennsylvania.

Edwin Binney and C.Harold won a gold medal at the worlds fair.

The Martin Jet Pack

Glen Martin made the first ‘Martin Jet Pack’. He is famous for what he has made, he is going to be rich with his jet pack.
They had to test the jet pack with a dummy so that they could know if it is safe and then they would test it with a person in the pilot position.
The jet pack can go where no helicopter can go like between buildings and sides of mountains.

The Martin Jet Pack works by two really powerful, big fans called ‘superfans’.
The Jet pack shot into the sky over the Canterbury Plains at a climb rate of 800ft per minute, reaching an altitude of 5,000ft. Captured on video by TVNZ’s SUNDAY.The U.S military are showing and interest in buying the Martin Jet Pack

Volcanoes are very tall, fat and all different sizes. Some are active. Some like Mt Taranaki , Tangariro, Pukeoaki and Pihariga are found in the North Island Of New Zealand.
Some volcanoes made earhquakes. Hot rocks fly out of the volcanoes. They make big clouds. Some people say that Rangiototo was one of the biggest disasters in the world. The cloud can tavel anywhere.
